The Show
"A picture of an exhibition room with empty showcases. The exhibited objects are gone and this gives the picture a dramatic touch. What remains is the museum's empty exhibition infrastructure. We observe the absence of what used to be shown. What ought to be shown? What can photographs say about life, environment, time? Is a photo just a rendition? The interiors and artificial scenes are enchanting and disenchanting at the same time, both fiction and reality. Their content surpasses the readily observable."
I like how visually stimulating the images are as well as the rich tones that are often associated with interiors (this may be just me).
This work expanded into a project about zoo interiors which is also rather interesting.
Rooilijn
"Karin Borghouts photographs places in our urbanised environment. She points her lens at the things people normally pass by. The photographs acquire - as a result of their well-chosen framework - an alienating character, rather than being objective testimonials. Street scenes are shown as closed spaces that capture the viewer's eye. Paving stones, the texture of front walls, hedges, blind windows, door surfaces and pointless details are elevated from banality. These balanced and tranquil images place tension on the relationship between viewer and reality.

Rooilijn: building line, the borderline between private space and the public road."
This work I particularly like because of the colours, or apparent lack of. I also really like her approach, the mix of view points creates a more visually interesting piece of work.
